This committee was in charge of generating a guide to help determine if a Wisconsin soil is saturated within 6" of the ground surface. This is of special importance in the placement of some private onsite wastewater treatment systems.

The WSPSS 6" Indicator Guide closely references a NRCS publication: Indicators of Hydric Soils. The link below directs you to the NRCS website but the publication does not include the preambulatory sections of Introduction, Concept, Cautions, Procedure, or Comment. In order to effectively use the publication you will need to know that in Wisconsin, the region covered by glacial deposits is within LLR K and the driftless area in the southwestern portion is within LLR M.
